Day 2 Thoughts

Made it up at 4:30 again this morning. Fresh cup of coffee and downloaded a journal app to my laptop. I had been using Day One on my iPad, and now that I have a laptop decided to download it to my new device. It’s refreshing to be able to wake up in the morning and write in my journal. Feels good to release the thoughts from yesterday, and put a little perspective on the day ahead. If you don’t have a journal you use, then I would recommend trying one. The one I use is $9.99 but there are less expensive apps, and some free ones also. Heck, you don’t even need to have a specific app, you can always use a basic word processor, or note taking platform if you wish. I just prefer Day One and the variety of features it offers. But enough about journaling, my next task, in addition to keeping up with my blog, is to start writing again. This in part explains my meaningless ramble here on my blog. I’m knocking the rust off. Getting used to the feel of the keyboards under my fingers again, and watching as the words come to life on the screen.

First writing task is to get back to poetry. I have a sonnet I started, but never finished. It will be my first mission. From there, I’m not sure where I will go. I have been looking at some writing software, mainly Scrivener, as a resource to assist in writing my first book. If you have any recommendations on other resources for writers please let me know. I’m open to all suggestions.

Morning coffee and thoughts

Something soothing about getting up early in the morning for a fresh cup of coffee. Still dark and cool outside. The rest of the house is dead silent, save the hum of the refrigerator. I haven’t been up this early in quite a while. Up this morning at 4:30. It’s only 30 minutes prior to my usual wake up time, but the extra 30 minutes gives me a little time to reflect on my upcoming day, and to spend a little time writing. I’ve found that as well intentioned as I may be, writing in the afternoon just doesn’t work with me. After work, it’s family time. Once family time is over, I’m too tired to think about writing. I’ve come to abhor going into my home office and using my desktop, so this new laptop is a welcome addition. I’m no longer confined to my home office. So I’m hopeful this will become a habit, and I can continue to wake up every morning a little earlier so I can spend time writing.

New Laptop

Finally purchased a new laptop. A Macbook Pro. Have not used a Mac before, so this has been a bit of a change for me. I am accustomed to using products by Apple as I do own both an iPhone and an iPad. It is nice to have all of my devices synced. My previous laptop was an HP, which has long been dead. I haven’t owned a laptop for a couple of years now, and have relied on my desktop, and mobile devices.

I must say the retina display is amazing, and I’m enjoying loading up the pics from my camera. Hopefully I will be spending many hours writing on my new laptop.
